A Past Trip // Chicago 2013

This past March a few photography classmates and I ventured off to the SPE National Conference in Chicago. After the conference came to an end, the four of us had the honor of getting together with artists Kenneth Josephson and Marilyn Zimmerwoman for a homemade Moroccan brunch at Ken's place in Chicago. Shown above were some of my favorite shots from the trip: a few from the Art Institute of Chicago, brunch at Kens, and the last two were taken outside of the hotel I was staying at.

Once I got home from the trip I created a SPE pinboard so that I could easily reference back to some of the photographers whose work caught my eye. All in all it was a memorable trip, and I would highly recommend the conference to anyone with a passion for photography!

Old Photographs

I recently came across a few old photographs of my mom. The first two were from long before I was born. It's strange to think that back then, they had to pay more attention to the way in which you shot a photograph. There were no options to carelessly shoot an endless amount of unnecessary ones the way many do now.

I thought the first one of my mom in Chicago was a neat photograph because I absolutely love big cities, especially New York and I never knew a time when my mom was an avid lover of the city herself. She has always talked about wanting to live in a more rural area so that she can grow a large vegetable garden in the backyard. I suppose we're not as opposite from one another as I had thought.

It's About Time

Although I'm graduating this summer, I'm nowhere near being finished with school. I was recently accepted into the graphic design program at Columbia University in Chicago and was beyond thrilled when I found out, though I ultimately decided to decline my acceptance. Ideally living in downtown Chicago does have its allure, but I'd like to think things through and work on my portfolio before making such a big decision.

I've had my heart set on New York City for a while now and recently booked a flight to the city for a campus tour of FIT. I'm also looking into a few universities around my current home within the metro-Detroit area and in California. I feel like things are finally starting to piece themselves together and only have positive thoughts for the future. I suppose we'll see where life takes me from here.
