Movie Night: Sabrina

Last night was my first day of no work or school in a while so I was eager to have a relaxing day. I caught up on New Girl, did a bit of homework, created some new boards on pinterest and went out to dinner with my sister to catch up.

Afterwards, I was organizing my box of dvd's and came across the set of Audrey Hepburn DVD's I received as a gift from my dad years ago. I hadn't watch them in a while so I decided to put in Sabrina. I simply adore Audrey Hepburn, and Sabrina was always one of my favorites. It's such a charming film  full of melancholic humor and quick wit. I was happy to get a chance to get in some leisure time for a change.

A Pretty Difference

Rosy cheeks can make such a pretty difference, and make for a perfect look during the cold weathered seasons. Since finding the right color for your skin tone is half the battle, check some of my favorites and don't hesitate to ask someone more experienced for guidance if you need it.

Not too long ago, one of my friend Therese tried ELF in pink passion on me (the first blush shown below), I'd never tried such a bright blush since I typically wear very neutral makeup, but I ended up giving it a try and ended up purchased a similar color for myself; muted down a bit.

Street Style: Paris, France

In light of my upcoming trip to France and Spaine, I thought I'd post some European fashion inspiration and photography from Scott Schuman's, The Sartorialist. I've read that the woman dress in a more feminine way, which I find very endearing.

She and Him

This indie pop duo incorporating a melancholy sweetness and cool retro feel to their songs. Many of them are more light hearted and with dreamy, an effect Zooey's voice tends to give off. It's great to put on while blogging or doing any sort of creative projects.

Find out more about them, here. And recently released a new christmas album that'd make a sweet gift for any she & him fan.

Autumn In New York

Autumn my favorite time to go to New York City, and last year I was lucky enough to spend Thanksgiving there with my cousin, Niki. Since I'm saving up for my trip to France, I won't be able to make it to the city this fall, but I'll make plans for a future as soon as possible.

The song Autumn In New York by Jo Strafford has been one of my new found favorites, and all of the above images made me think of the song. I hope everyone is enjoying the new season, too.

French Onion + A Film

My favorite fall time soup has always been french onion. The hot steamy onion broth, the soft soup-soaked seasoned croutons topped with lightly browned and bubbling slice of gruyere.

On a gloomy day like today, I thought I'd make up a crock for myself and put on one of my favorite Sofia Coopla films, Lost In Translation. Below is a recipe I found for the soup.

Film Stills and Quotes

Once in a while I'll come across a film still with a quote underneath that I either really like or can connect with. It's almost like reading a book and realizing that your not the only person in the world with the same sorts of thoughts, feelings or situations. Situations that you had otherwise felt very alone in.

Maybe this comes off as more of a melancholic post, but I see it as being very real. There are quite a few more under the cut, in case you're interested.

A Love Letter from 1919

A letter to F. Scott Fitzgerald  from Zelda.
Spring 1919

Sweetheart,

Please, please don’t be so depressed—We’ll be married soon, and then these lonesome nights will be over forever—and until we are, I am loving, loving every tiny minute of the day and night—Maybe you won’t understand this, but sometimes when I miss you most, it’s hardest to write—and you always know when I make myself—Just the ache of it all— and I can’t tell you. If we were together, you’d feel how strong it is—you’re so sweet when you’re melancholy. I love your sad tenderness—when I’ve hurt you—That’s one of the reasons I could never be sorry for our quarrels—and they bothered you so—Those dear, dear little fusses, when I always tried so hard to make you kiss and forget—

Scott—there’s nothing in all the world I want but you—and your precious love—All the material things are nothing. I’d just hate to live a sordid, colorless existence—because you’d soon love me less—and less—and I’d do anything—anything—to keep your heart for my own—I don’t want to live—I want to love first, and live incidentally—Why don’t you feel that I’m waiting—I’ll come to you, Lover, when you’re ready—Don’t don’t ever think of the things you can’t give me—You’ve trusted me with the dearest heart of all— and it’s so damn much more than anybody else in all the world has ever had—

How can you think deliberately of life without me—If you should die—O Darling— darling Scott—It’d be like going blind. I know I would, too,—I’d have no purpose in life— just a pretty—decoration. Don’t you think I was made for you? I feel like you had me ordered—and I was delivered to you—to be worn—I want you to wear me, like a watch—charm or a button hole boquet—to the world. And then, when we’re alone, I want to help—to know that you can’t do anything without me.
I’m glad you wrote Mamma. It was such a nice sincere letter—and mine to St. Paul was very evasive and rambling. I’ve never, in all my life, been able to say anything to people older than me—Somehow I just instinctively avoid personal things with them—even my family. Kids are so much nicer.

Notable Photographer // Rafa Castells

I first noticed Rafa Castells photography on the blog Too Much Chocolate, ran by Jake Stangel. The blog mostly features up-and-coming, fine art and avant-garde photographers. Upon reading the individual interviews, you're able to get a sense of each photographers lifestyle, and what drives their passion for the work they produce.

What stood out to me in Castells photographs was his ability to shoot raw, simple, everyday subject matters, and how he highlights the beauty in a less than interesting scene or backdrop. I find his photographs to be more of a documentation of his life. By not only keeping, but highlighting imperfections, his work can be quite intimate as well. You're able get a strong sense of who Castells is through his photographs if you pay close attention to the subtle details he incorporates.

One of Castells main subject matters is that of his girlfriend Alba, whose unique features adds a sense of depth and emotion to the images he captures, and the look in her eyes he freezes in time. Together, Rafa and Alba seem to have a rare sort of relationship that evokes a profoundly tender and cherished  connection through his photographs.
