A Housewarming Gift

I recently took a day trip to visit my friends Athena and Carl at their new home in Indiana. They moved there for grad school a few weeks ago and are still getting settled in. Prior to my arrival, I had planned on making them a real home cooked dinner since I love to cook and they're not too into that sort of thing—yet. 

After realizing that they barely had enough food let alone utensils to cook a proper meal, we headed to a nearby grocery store to pick up a few essentials. In all honestly I may be a little overly picky about what I use in my cooking; it just kills me to use standard table salt as opposed to sea salt. Regardless, I found the items needed to prepare the meal I had planned—a gnocchi dish with mushrooms and a gorgonzola sauce, which they absolutely love. I made a mental note of a few things they could use around the kitchen while I was cooking and ended up buying them a spoon rest since I dirtied up their stove so much. 

It's a start.

Personalized Bookmarks

I recently typed these index card bookmarks on my typewriter, dipped the edges in gold ink + tied around a pretty piece of ribbon. A 2012 Calendar

I'd first discovered Kurt Halsey when I was around 16 or so, and since then I've always been able to count on receiving one of his wonderfully illustrated calendars from my sister, Catherine. I usually try to stay away from his website before Christmas day since I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I thought I'd just give a small preview.

A great seasonal gift idea for a friend who is more difficult to shop for. whose got everything, These gifts will warm their heart right up. Personally, whenever I have trouble picking out a gift for a friend or acquaintance, I usually try to find some sort of food basket or edible treat; because who doesn't like food?

I thought that this handmade apple twig four-pack holder would make the perfect gift for him. To fill this, I'd recommend checking out Trader Joe's or Whole Foods for unique seasonal beer and ciders. Grab your favorite pack, tie a ribbon around top and you're done. Such a simple and neat gift idea.

Pick A Pie

Can't make up your mind as to which pie you want to make? Especially if you live with just one or two roommates, this pie pan can be a great baking option. Personally, I'm not too picky when it comes to pie, but I know there are many out there who can't say the same.

Which is your favorite? Pumpkin? Strawberry Rhubarb? Dutch Apple? Whatever it is, you and your partner can be equally as happy with this ingenious little split decision pie pan. How awesome is this idea! It would also make a perfect holiday gift for a couple.

ONA Camera Bag

I came across this ONA camera bag on Jamie Beck's blog and fell in love. It has such a sharp, classic look to it, and is made from real leather. Although it may not be the most affordable bag, you can tell it's a high quality one that will last you a lifetime.

Baabaazuzu

A friend of mine was wearing these mittens last winter that I absolutely adored. They were the warmest mittens and I'm still working on getting a pair of my own. The story behind these mittens, or the brand in general is pretty neat and will most likely make you want to buy a pair for yourself.

Sue Burns, the founder of baabaazuzu and graphic designer founded the brand in part due to her husband shrinking a few wool sweaters of hers. She ended up sewing together scrap pieces of sweaters into mitten for her daughters and they became a huge hit their friends and class mates. Even the adults wanted a pair of their own and began to inquire. Burns started to make these out of old, unwanted hand-me-down and thrifted sweaters that were soon to be given away.
